REPORTS TO: Project Manager, Division/Branch Manager
PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Project Manager or Division/Branch Manager, the Engineer I (A) is responsible for providing design and drawing preparation for civil, municipal, structural and/or transportation related projects, in a timely and cost effective manner, which meet client, contractual and company requirements.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Work towards the achievement of the company vision statement. Be familiar and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policy as it relates to their area of work.
Under close supervision, prepare simple and routine plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates by following standard engineering practices and procedures within well-established guidelines. Carry out routine technical surveys.
Interpret engineering specifications and solve routine problems by applying defined procedures with ample precedent. Make suggestions for modifying concepts and/or product techniques and materials.
Assist senior engineers with more complex designs, plans, calculations and surveys. Assist with proposal development and contract documentation. Assist the Project Manager or Division/Branch Manager in contract administration services during construction.
May assign and check assignments of engineering technologists and/or technicians.
Establish good rapport and build relationships with peers and clients by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner.
Remain updated on current professional practices and maintain a high awareness of new products and procedures in industry by monitoring trade publications and actively participating in professional associations.
Comply with all company policies including safety policies and WCB regulations.
Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
University degree in civil, survey or geomatic engineering. Registered as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) and a member in good standing with their provincial Engineering Association.
Familiarity with computer modeling programs used to develop designs. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or Microstation.
Organized, good written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, good attendance, sound problem solving skills, and general computer knowledge.
POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR A TECHNOLOGIST
This is an entry to intermediate level position normally held by a recent technical school graduate up to someone who has 5 years of experience in the field.

REPORTS TO: Project Manager or Unit Manager
PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Project Manager or Unit Manager, the Technologist is responsible for field and laboratory testing of materials, conducting subsurface investigations and municipal systems inspections. Experience in construction management is an asset. Other responsibilities include assisting other field staff, project engineers and scientists.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Assist engineers with designs, plans, calculations and surveys. Conduct construction supervision and ensure projects are proceeding as indicated in design drawings and specifications. Assist with proposal development, costing and contract specifications, and forward project planning.
Establish good rapport and build relationships with contractors, peers and clients by responding to requests and communicating information in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology. Certification with the Provincial Society of Engineering Technologists and Technicians.
Familiarity with computer modeling programs used to develop designs. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or Microstation.
